The tenor Luciano Botelho is rapidly establishing a reputation as one of the most exciting young tenors on the international opera circuit. He trained at the University of Rio de Janeiro before undertaking Postgraduate study at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and The Cardiff International Academy of Voice.
His opera debut was in 2001 as Tamino The Magic Flute in the Amazonas Opera Festival where he has also sung Don Ottavio Don Giovanni, Ramiro La Cenerentola and Il Conte Almaviva Il barbiere di Siviglia. In 2003 he was acclaimed by Brazilian critics as "one of the best talents of this country" after his performance of Fadinard Il cappello di paglia di Firenze. In 2007 he represented Brazil at BBC Cardiff singer of the World Competition.
Over the last few years he has been invited to sing in the main opera houses in Brazil building up a vast repertoire that include Nemorino L'elisir d'amore; Nadir Les pecheurs des perles; Tebaldo I Capuleti e i Montecchi; Il principe La bella dormente nell bosco; Luis Carlos Prestes Olga; Fenton Falstaff; Rinuccio Gianni Schicchi.
The recently performances include the title role at Orfeo at Rio de Janeiro Opera House and at São Paulo Opera House; the title role at Le Comte Ory in Angers/Nantes; La Gazza Ladra in Massy; Anna Bolena with ETO and Fille du Régiment at Holland Park Opera Festival.
His future plans include Ramiro, La Cenrentola in Nancy; Corradino (cover) Matilde di Shabran at Royal Opera House; Orphée, Orphée et Euridice at Stuttgart Staatsoper; Flavio, Norma at Théâre du Chatelet and Giacomo, La donna del Lago at Geneva.
